via Hope Lab: First Lady Michelle Obama recently launched the Let’s Move campaign. To me, the specific focus on childhood obesity is a patriot cause that everyone can align themselves with. Politicians are fond of citing “our children’s future” when talking policy. Of course it all depends on what is successful and what gets funding. I assume the data-driven administration has an evaluation strategy (shout out to my health comm grad school advisory) in place to monitor success and make changes to improve the program’s implementation.

The campaign is all about keeping healthy and active. Watch the Let’s Move public service announcements. Many are celebrity based, which is fine, but I’d rather see any celebrity on camera engaging in a “Let’s Move” activity.

Sounds a lot like the Verb Campaign, which lost government funding in 2006.

Of course, the current initiative is broader than physical activity. Let’s Move focuses on schools and food access as well. Looking forward to seeing what’s next. If you have any insights on Let’s Move, please share..
