Health-Care-Video Top 5: Week 9

Good Magazine makes consistently interesting videos that blend stats, music, and news. It gets a lot of info across in a manner more entertaining and concise than many of the videos put out quickly by hospitals and CDC.

Adorable! This is the filp of that Kaiser spot with the child lamenting his mistakes from his “younger days.”

Dramatic music, soothing-but-firm narrator, quick camera moves, and hard-hitting quotes! Also best hospital name ever: Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital :) The “Open Surgery” vs “Minimally Invasive Surgery” still photos side by side really drive home the benefits of this center (and all laparoscopy). Framed around the story of baby Anika, the video balances the drama of her story and the info the hospital wants to communicate.

Swimming is dramatic when filmed like this. That is why its been in a lot of car and razor commercials lately. I love the playfulness with the idea of “water on the brain” and showing the patient swimming after.

Regular readers will know I’m a sucker for animation–especially when I can’t understand what they are saying. While this video is not all together awesome, there are some beautiful moments, and the transition to live action is stunning. I also wanted to give a nod to these “Story of An Idea” videos that are posted on different countries’ Red Cross and Red Crescent channels. Here’s another animation I like from last week.

SPECIAL BONUS VIDEO THIS WEEK!!!!!

Another non-English (Ok, at least this one has subtitles) video. This one captures an amazing father-baby bonding moment. The newborn is places lying down on the father’s bare chest while the mother remains in the operating area following a C-section. Is this even done in the US? It also has come fun camera techniques of moving quickly and slowing down to introduce characters. Seeing the new, comfortable labor and delivery rooms in Georgia is interesting compared to the new building we filmed in March at St. Jude. The video really sells the benefit of the parenting classes.
